Homeowner Attacked by Four Suspects Attempting to Steal Car in Broad Daylight in Rocky Hill, Connecticut
On April 12, 2023, a homeowner in Rocky Hill, Connecticut was attacked by four young suspects who attempted to steal his car.[0] The incident occurred in broad daylight around 7 p.m. on Valley View Drive and was reported to the Rocky Hill Police Department at 7:02 p.m.[1] According to police reports, the homeowner approached a single suspect who was in his motor vehicle, and a fight ensued.[2] During the altercation, three additional suspects emerged from a waiting car nearby and began to assault the man.[1] The suspects, who were wearing masks, fled the area in a dark blue or black Mercedes sedan.[2]
The incident is still under investigation by the Rocky Hill Police Department Detective Division, and anyone with information is urged to contact Detective Matthew Seguin at 860-258-2047 or mseguin@Rockyhillct.gov.[3] Rocky Hill police have increased patrols in the neighborhood and are working with regional partners to solve these types of crimes.[2]
The attack has left neighbors feeling unsettled and fearful. One neighbor, Debra Devanney, expressed her shock, saying, “It's so close to home. It's really frustrating. You normally think something like that might happen at night, but now they're out and about in daylight. It's pretty scary. It really is. Three houses down. You think you're in a safe neighborhood, and you're really not. It's terrifying.”
Police Sgt. Jeffrey Foss-Rugan echoed the need for residents to be vigilant and take preventative measures, stating, “We've got to keep our garages locked. We have to keep the doors locked. We have to keep the valuables out of the car.”[4]
Unfortunately, this incident is not an isolated one. Sgt. Foss-Rugan noted that similar incidents are occurring throughout the state and country where suspects may have weapons, and bystanders are putting themselves in harm's way by intervening.[3] In a separate incident, a victim was seriously injured in a car crash involving entrapment in Rocky Hill on April 15, 2023.[5] Firefighters were able to extract the victim from the wreckage and transport them to a local hospital with serious injuries.
It is essential to remain alert and report any suspicious activity to the authorities to prevent similar incidents from occurring. The Rocky Hill Police Department urges residents to be vigilant and take precautions to ensure their safety and the safety of their community.
